Scheduled Forum Maintenance - February 10th 2010

Sup peeps<3 The forum software's outdated again, and I'm setting aside a day to work on it -- I know there's been some complaints about the database eating occasional posts/threads as well?

The short version of this is that I'm going to be working on the forum on Wednesday, February 10th (Time TBA). I'll be pulling a backup of the database on the Tuesday before, and hopefully I won't have to use it, but as always there is the risk of some data loss. Don't hate me if I accidentally wipe everything out. :3

Basically, aside from the "back up your stuff just in case dudes" warning, I also want to use this post as a place to lodge any technical concerns you've had with the forum. Have you noticed any random glitching when you try to do anything? Are there bugs you've found that I don't know about? Speak up now so I know what tutorials to look up while I dick around this week preparing. XD

The only thing I've heard about is someone's thread mysteriously disappearing, but we're not sure if that was an error on our part or a glitch.

Are we meant to be able to see our sent messages? o.o There's a link in the messages section that says 'Sent Items' but when I click on it it always says no messages.

So, is it meant to show our sent messages, it which case, that isn't working for me, or is it meant to be doing something else and I'm being stupid? >.<

Fae - This confused me at first too.  In order to keep your saved messages and be able to see them after they've been sent, you MUST click a box as your are writing your message.  At the bottom, it will say "Save copy to sent mesages" or something along those lines.  You must check that box before you send it.  If you do not click that box, it won't save your message in the sent box.  It's rather odd.

It's not odd -- it's an option meant to save a ton of server space and make sure people only save what they want to keep instead of having a permanent copy of every "lol" that runs through the PM system. XD

DO people want an automatic copy of all their sent PMs? Because it might make my server cry, but I can enable it for a test period if y'all want to give it a shot.

The main reason it bothered me was actually because I couldn't figure out if the message had sent or not. My internet connection goes down a lot so sometimes messages don't send and it isn't obvious all the time, it confused me when I checked in there and there was nothing there. >.<
So, I don't mind too much about actually having an automatic copy of my sent PMs now I know there is a reason for them not appearing in the sent items folder!

I set mine to save my sent ones, because I can't always remember the exact info I sent out about a group dub.

The only problem I come across is sometimes the site won't load, but that's it.

Say more about that. It won't load in the "Jko's server is retarded and spotty" way, or in the "it loads a blank page" way? I personally get a blank page after the PM notification if I choose not to view my new PMs right away, and I'm thinking that'll be fixed with the software upgrade, but is your problem triggered by something different?

Sometimes it'll try to load for like 10 minutes and then just gives up, and it'll be like that for like half an hour to an hour, and sometimes the page doesn't load fully. So instead of the layout it's a white background and everything's a vertical list.

That's exactly what mine does sometimes too, it just won't load sometimes when I click on the link~

I can't remember the last time I had a problem with the boards loading. It's always pretty much instant.

In trying to install new fanciness, I broke a bunch of stuff. This is going to take some time to fix, so for the time being, enjoy the default skin. xD I'm going to bed and will tackle this monster some more at a later date. Expect sporadic downtimes for the next couple of days as I break and un-break things.
